Pre-team

The purpose of the Active Athletics Pre-Team Program is to prepare young preschool/kindergarten-aged gymnasts for the Competitive Development Program, Level 2/3 Team or for entry into the Xcel Bronze/Silver Team. This is a fast-tracked program with an emphasis on detail, strength and specific skill development. Graduating athletes will have mastered to a reasonable extent, the required skills necessary to participate and compete effectively at one of these USA Gymnastics competitive team programs.

Athletes who enter the Pre-Team Program on average will participate for 1 to 2 years before graduating onto one of these Competitive Team Programs. Factors that affect a gymnast’s length of time in the Pre-Team Program includes an athlete’s birthday, timing of the competitive gymnastics season, attendance and the standardized level advancement periods of Active Athletics. This class is by invitation only.

Girls Recreational

Our Introductory level is our most basic level of gymnastics, but exposes your child to the four girl’s apparatus’. Gymnasts will work through weekly lesson plans on the vault, bars, beam, floor as well as trampoline. Being in the program also incorporates drills and fitness-based stations to help build strength and flexibility. This is the most basic school-aged program. Each gymnast has a chance to move up every other six-week session.

Beginner gymnastics builds upon the Introductory curriculum. This is where more advanced skills are attained with greater attention to detail. This level has a lot of emphasis on correct technique and starting/finishing positions. We start working on handstands, cartwheels, circles on bars and skills on higher beams.

Intermediate gymnasts continue to build upon the fundamentals learned in beginner program and more advanced skills are introduced on each of the 4 events of women’s  gymnastics.

Advanced is our highest rec level that focuses on building skills for a competitive team in addition to routine sequencing with the goal of producing a more polished and confident gymnast. Skills include front and back handsprings, cartwheels on beam and vaulting over a vault mat. Each gymnast has the opportunity to move onto one of our competitive teams or stay at the Advanced level to continue building skills. Gymnasts are encouraged to take this class twice a week to maintain strength and skill retention.

Boys Recreational

This program provides male gymnasts exposure to all six disciplines of men’s gymnastics. They include the floor exercise, pommel horse/mushroom, still rings, vault, parallel bars and high bar. In addition, gymnasts will also spend time on the trampolines. Fundamentals of basic stretching, strength, coordination and skill development are learned throughout the program. As gymnasts progress, they will learn more complex sequences and eventually be offered the opportunity to participate in one of our competitive team programs.

Girls Developmental Team

The USA Gymnastics Women’s Development Program (WDP) was created with the belief that all athletes, regardless of their potential, must have a solid foundation of basic skills in order to advance safely. This program allows the gymnast to advance at her own pace, competing in more than one level in a year. Active Athletics competes WDP levels 2 – 10.

Girls Xcel Team

The USA Gymnastics Xcel Program is an alternative to the USA Gymnastics Women’s Developmental Program. It offers individual flexibility to gymnasts providing varying abilities and commitment levels and the opportunity for a rewarding gymnastics experience. Active competes Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Sapphire divisions.  Active competes Bronze teams both in the fall and spring competitions.

Boys Team

Active Athletics participates in the USA Gymnastics Developmental Program and the Competitive Club Team programs. Once gymnasts have demonstrated the required skills of the Boys Recreational Program, they will be invited to participate in one of these two programs. The Competitive Club Program allows flexibility for gymnasts to compete in gymnastics with a very low commitment level, allowing for participation in other sports. For more information about the competitive teams please contact Active directly.
